Dear GoldenCup – 2021 Mission Control Team,
Rebecca and I made it safely to Silverthorne, CO, Saturday evening at about 6:45 PM and met my brother, Laban, and Deanna there. We drove to their house in Denver and enjoyed a rest day on Sunday with them.
We had some amazing food (including some delicious chicken and waffles for brunch) and enjoyed seeing Denver on foot and by car with Laban and Deanna.
Saturday was a good day of riding with 98.62 miles and the max elevation of 9,620 feet according to Strava. There were some uphills and some amazing downhill sections, along with a bit of rain. I saw some amazing scenery, especially around a reservoir where the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail left Highway 9 and took the road less traveled.
Saturday I met a group of riders heading west on the Transamerica Bicycle Trail. They left Yorktown sometime in May and are over halfway towards their goal already. They were very friendly…and their names were: Mark, Conor, Tim, David, Jordan, and Mary (see their photo below). It is always inspiring to meet other riders on the same trail.
Tomorrow, Monday, June 28, the plan is to ride from Silverthorne to Canon City, CO. It includes the highest elevation of the GoldenCup-2021 ride of 11,542 feet at Hoosier pass. The rest day was very sweet, but I’m looking forward to getting back on the trail.
Thanks again to all the teams and individuals helping support clean water for the people in Malawi!
Thankfully,
Michael
