Billions also face life-threatening challenges due to the absence of basic healthcare technologies. Without reliable access to water, sanitation, and appropriate medical equipment, communities around the world are exposed to preventable diseases and unsafe living conditions.
Design Outreach (DO) is a Christian humanitarian engineering organization committed to solving these global challenges through the development of innovative and context-appropriate technologies in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and Global Health sectors. We have a bold vision to reach 1 million people with clean water and the Gospel by the end of 2026 and 10 million people by the end of 2030.

Position:
Reporting to the Engineering Solutions Director, the WASH Program Manager will oversee the WASH Engineering Solutions team and actively manage product development projects using the DO Way for Appropriate Technology Development. The DO Way includes research, user needs development, design, engineering, lab and field testing, manufacturing, and field support. The position will involve a high level of collaboration across DO’s project teams and key suppliers to ensure completion of project objectives within scope, budget, and schedule. The WASH Program Manager position is a full-time permanent position with benefits. Salary is based on experience and is competitive.
- Oversee the implementation of the DO Way for Appropriate Technology Development process for new and existing WASH technologies through research, design, analysis, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, documentation, and risk management.
- Lead, manage, and provide accountability for the WASH Engineering Solutions team; directly supervise Teams Leads and senior-level team members.
- Conduct program planning for product development and production via developing and maintaining detailed program timelines, resource plans, and budgets.
- Identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and manage changes to program scope or schedule.
- Facilitate regular program reviews and status updates with leadership and cross-functional teams to communicate the objectives, needs, and risks of projects to the organization.
- Develop and maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with advisors, partners, and suppliers.
- Collaborate with DO’s Stewardship Department to engage in fundraising initiatives, maintain a portfolio of donor relationships, and be accountable to stewardship goals.
- Collaborate with Field Programs Department, including DO field offices in Malawi and Zambia, to field test and implement new technologies. International travel once per year is required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and quality standards, including DO’s internal quality standards.

Project Engineer, Medical
Gahanna, OhioReporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Project Engineer will primarily be involved in engineering medical solutions through the DO Way for Appropriate Technology Development—including research, design, engineering, testing, manufacturing support, quality, and field support. The position will involve a high amount of collaboration across DO’s project teams and with suppliers to ensure on‐time completion of project objectives. The Project Engineer position is a full‐time permanent position with benefits and requires support raising.
Position:
- Provide engineering support for development of medical devices through, but not limited to, research, design, analysis, prototyping, testing, manufacturing support, documentation, and risk management.
- Provide secondary engineering support to WASH projects on an as‐needed basis.
- Collaborate with Field Programs department, including DO field offices in Malawi and Zambia, to field test and implement new technologies. International travel 1‐2 times per year is required.
- Support‐raise launch funds and annual funds, while maintaining consistent and appropriate contact with ministry partners.
- Participate in design project teams and professionally represent Design Outreach while interfacing with various volunteer, industry, healthcare, and advisory partners.
- Implement the DO Way for Appropriate Technology Development on projects.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers on user/human‐centered design activities and studies.
- Generate CAD models and drawings; manage design changes.
- Utilize prototyping methods to evaluate, test, and refine concepts.
- Design and implement test methods to verify and validate, per applicable standards, that design outputs meet design inputs and user needs/intended uses.
- Plan and conduct usability validation studies at selected hospitals in developing nations.
- Document product development history per FDA design control requirements.
- Support risk management activities.
- Support 510(k) submissions.
- Review technical content for accuracy such as drawings, models, engineering analyses, and test reports that are developed by outside resources such as volunteer teams and suppliers.
- Manage small projects with supervision.
- Attend meetings with suppliers and provide suppliers with appropriate technical information.
