Where Vocation and Calling Meet

Design Outreach is quickly becoming a place where college students and recent graduates are discovering their purpose and calling. For those pursuing a career in engineering, DO’s internship programs have proven to be a life-changing opportunity to use their engineering skills to make an eternal impact on communities around the globe.

“If you want to be working toward building the kingdom of God and engineering, it’s a great fit and a great opportunity,” said Weston Ruffer, a former intern pursuing a degree in food, agricultural, and biological engineering at The Ohio State University. “You get to work with seasoned engineers who came from well-known organizations and have committed the rest of their engineering career to further the kingdom of God. It’s just a great opportunity. You aren’t just getting coffee for the founder; it’s actual meaningful work.”

Through Design Outreach’s Summer Internship Program and Internship+ programs, interns dive into a diverse set of engineering projects, have high-level ownership of their work, and make a direct impact on communities in need of hope.

“It’s been an amazing experience to see something I learned or read about and be able to apply it, see the results, and know how many people it’s going to impact,” said Ellie Rider, former DO intern and biomedical engineering student at The Ohio State University. “And to do it all for the kingdom of the Lord is a huge blessing.”

The 10-week Summer Internship Program is open to college students completing their freshman through junior years in an applicable engineering field and provides the opportunity for participants to be directly involved in the design, development, and testing of DO’s technologies.

The Internship+ Program is specifically designed for recently graduated college students who are considering a full-time career with Design Outreach, particularly former DO interns. The 20-week program typically runs from May to October and includes a trip to Malawi to participate in DO’s work in the field. At the end of the program, Internship+ Program participants have the opportunity to apply for a full-time engineering position with DO.

All internships are paid and support-raised positions based in Columbus, Ohio. Aspiring engineers who desire to put their faith into action can submit their applications before November 22, 2024.
