Design Outreach (DO) is working to turn this statistic upside down by focusing our engineering efforts on the needs of those in developing countries who are often forgotten.
Design Outreach is a Christian humanitarian engineering organization with offices in Ohio, Malawi, Zambia, and the UK with technologies in use in ten countries worldwide, serving over 150,000 people. Our vision is to see marginalized and low-income communities transformed physically, economically, and spiritually. We achieve this goal by developing innovative and appropriate technologies that improve the lives of those living in poverty.

We are addressing the most pressing, overlooked, and under-addressed needs for people in developing countries.
DO Innovations

Available Technologies
LifePump™, DO’s flagship innovation, is a reliable, deep-reaching, and long-lasting hand pump that addresses one of the world’s most pressing needs— consistent, reliable access to safe water.
LifePumpLink™ is a satellite-based remote monitor that provides real-time information on a pump’s performance, indicates changes in usage, and sends alerts.
LifeTap™ is a reliable self-closing valve that is robust enough to handle the wear and tear of a community tap stand while preventing water loss.

Technologies in Development
autoLifePump™ is a solar-powered electric motor that can be added to a LifePump™ to increase the flow rate for growing communities and higher demands for water.
LifeLatrine™ is addressing the need for sustainable, affordable latrines as a vital step in alleviating poverty.
Medical - DO is addressing the needs of healthcare in developing countries and is in the early stages of creating an innovative solution to wound care.
