Design Outreach Provides Disaster Relief Aid for 700 Families in Malawi

As we celebrate Christmas with our families this month, families in rural Malawi are facing severe food shortages. Successive poor harvests have made staple foods increasingly scarce and unaffordable. In Lilongwe District, many households are struggling to provide daily meals, placing children and the elderly at greater risk of hunger and malnutrition.

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, Design Outreach is helping provide emergency food assistance to 700 families in Traditional Authority Chimutu, Lilongwe District. Yesterday, with the help of local authorities, our team distributed life-saving food to the most vulnerable households in rural Lilongwe.

As shown in this video clip from the DO guest house in Malawi, each household received approximately one month of food, including 20 kilograms of maize flour, one bottle of cooking oil, one kilogram of beans, one kilogram of salt, and 10 packets of soya pieces. In total, 14 tons of maize flour, 700 liters of cooking oil, 700 kilograms of beans, 700 kilograms of salt, and 7,000 packets of soya pieces were distributed. The distribution will be repeated in February to help sustain families through a season of scarcity while they wait for the harvest in May.

In addition to physical nourishment, our Gospel Outreach team shared encouragement, prayer, and the hope of the Gospel. We distributed 100 Bibles to local church leaders to help strengthen faith and community support during this difficult time. Our greatest hope is to reflect Christ’s love and show Malawians they are not forgotten.

We are deeply grateful for this opportunity to bring food, hope, and encouragement to those in need. Please join us in prayer for these 700 families and for all the communities impacted by this famine.
