Meet Modester Cheries

LifePump™ doesn’t just provide clean water—it also creates opportunity.

Design Outreach traveled to Malawi last month to witness LifePump installations and install upgrades in public domain handpumps. On our visit to the community surrounding the Chankhosi Primary School, we met Modester Cheries, a 17-year-old tailor who was grateful for LifePump because it will enable her to grow her business. In communities like Modester’s, women and children are forced to spend a large part of their day retrieving contaminated water from hand-dug wells. On this morning, we walked with Modester to collect 5 gallons of water. Although the walk was only about 5 minutes from the school, the process to retrieve the contaminated water with a rope and jug was time-consuming, and on any other day, she would do it again in the evening. But not today. This was installation day, and soon she would have all the water she needs from LifePump, so she can spend more time using her creativity as a tailor.

Together, we can eliminate water poverty and change the world—one life, one community, and one country at a time. Will you join us? Learn about starting or contributing to a LifePump Campaign here.
