Welcome, Les
Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the Design Outreach Board of Directors, Les Shephard! Les has extensive experience in both industry and academia, having spent much of his career in various leadership roles at Sandia National Laboratories and, most recently, as a professor at the University of Texas – San Antonio.
During his tenure at Sandia National Laboratories, he pursued technology solutions to address 21st-century energy, water, and security challenges in regions of high strategic importance to the U.S. More recently, Les has partnered with organizations that invest in people and communities to inspire hearts, enrich spirits, and provide sustainable solutions to those denied access to safe water and clean energy in the U.S. and elsewhere. This path naturally converged on the life-sustaining, innovative solutions developed by Design Outreach.
Les received his Masters and Ph.D in Oceanography from Texas A&M University and a B.S. in Geology from the State University of New York. He is married to his high school sweetheart Darlene and lives in New Braunfels, Texas. They enjoy time with their 3 children and 11 grandchildren while growing fruit and pecan trees on the banks of the Guadalupe River.
We are thrilled to have Les as part of our Board of Directors and know he will bring valuable wisdom, insight, and guidance to help DO continue to transform communities physically, economically, and spiritually.
