Did You Know?

Did you know that women make up more than 40 percent of the agricultural labor force in developing countries? Today is International Day of Rural Women, the day the United Nations honors the critical role these women play in food production and poverty reduction in their communities.

Many of the women we meet in the communities we serve provide for their families by farming. And many of them dream of being able to produce their own food for their families, but they lack the basic resource to do so: water.

Thanks to our many supporters, thousands of women around the world now have access to a sustainable water source through LifePump, and they can now grow their own crops, start their own businesses, and save money for the future.

Oh, and by the way, it also happens to be Global Handwashing Day, another cause that we at DO are passionate about! Clean water means clean hands. And clean hands mean better health and wellbeing.

Thank you for both empowering women AND promoting better health and hygiene in the communities we serve! To continue to support rural women, better health, and a brighter future for communities around the world, donate today at doutreach.org/donate.
