Funds will Equip Seven Malawi Communities with Safe, Reliable Water and More!

Design Outreach is launching its second annual Golden Cup event that starts June 21st and goes through July 3rd.

Led by cross-country cyclist and healthcare engineer Michael Cook, the event will raise awareness of the challenges facing global communities that lack access to safe drinking water. Fundraising from the event will help to fund seven new LifePump  to be installed in Malawi.

The Golden Cup is a walk, run, and ride held over two weeks each summer to raise funds for rural communities in Malawi, Africa that lack access to safe, reliable drinking water. DO’s goal this year is to raise $105,000—enough funds to equip seven communities with a LifePump™, LifePumpLinkTM, and COVID-19 supplies, including face masks, soap, and hand-washing stations.

Teams and individuals can join the fun by participating in any physical activity—such as walking, riding, running, swimming, or kayaking—during the two weeks of the Golden Cup event (June 21-July 3). Registration is just $50.

“We welcome the participation of anyone who wants to go outside and get moving,” said Bixler. “It’s a great challenge—getting exercise while raising money for communities that often lack even the most basic of reliable water supplies.”
