Up to $5,000 Could be Matched to Provide Essential Materials in Malawi to Fight COVID-19.

We often say that every dollar donated matters, but the Hunter Memorial Fund at the Columbus Foundation has issued a challenge making this twice as true. Until October 15, Global Handwashing Day, the fund will match every dollar donated (on a 1:1 basis, up to $5,000) to the HandWASHing for All initiative.

The HandWASHing for ALL initiative provides LifePump communities in Malawi with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) training, soap, protective face masks, and a LifePumpLink (a remote satellite monitoring system). According to the Malawi National WASH Programme Manager, Holystone Kafanikhale, only 11% of Malawians wash their hands with soap.

“Malawians do not have a culture of washing hands,” said Kafanikhale. “Normally, we wash hands when we want to eat nsima (a corn porridge). Otherwise, you will see people coming out of a toilet and not washing hands.”

The HandWASHing for ALL initiative was developed by Design Outreach’s Malawi Field Office team to empower families in protecting themselves from the COVID-19 pandemic that is sweeping across the globe.

If you are blessed enough to consider making a donation in support of the HandWASHing for ALL initiative, please visit Donate: HandWASHing for All before October 15 to amplify your gift by 100%.
